Lighting & Visibility

  • Keep exterior lights on around your home at night.
  • Motion sensor lights deter criminal activity beyond standard fixtures.
  • A well-lit neighborhood is usually NOT a target of opportunity.

Home Security

  • Wireless security systems (cameras, smoke & CO detectors) are affordable and effective.
  • Keep landscaping trimmed around entrances to reduce cover for criminals.
  • A security alarm with door sensors, motion lighting, and monitoring is highly beneficial.

Protecting Valuables

  • Do not store valuables in drawers, jewelry boxes, or easily accessible areas.
  • "False containers" (fake canned goods, shaving cream) are available online for discreet storage.
  • Never store a safe in the master bedroom closet — conceal and bolt it to the floor from inside.
  • Keep photo copies and a ledger of valuables with receipts, descriptions, and serial numbers.
